A majority progress to university. Class-sizes are small, with a maximum of 15 pupils.


About the department:


As part of the overall Estates team led by the Estates Manager, the Caretaking Department comprises the Caretaking Supervisor, four Caretakers and five Cleaners.

The department is responsible for the cleaning of the premises to a very high standard, including school furnishings and, as necessary, help to maintain a high standard of maintenance throughout the school.

During school holidays you will be asked to assist with maintenance projects around the school.


About this post:

Responsibility under the Bursar / Estates Manager for the coordination of the Caretaking and Cleaning staff at the School.

The general duties of the Caretaking Supervisor will include:

  • Overseeing the general cleaning and minor maintenance of the school including dormitories, washrooms, WC facilities, windows, and administration areas;
  • Coordinating the repair of furnishings and equipment as required;
  • Coordinating larger maintenance projects during the school holidays, including liaising with outside contractors and suppliers;
  • Regularly liaising with the Catering Manager / Head Chef regarding school catering functions, and coordinating the setup and stripdown of function rooms and furniture, the moving of food and beverages, etc;
  • Assisting in the kitchen from timetotime as required;
  • Regularly liaising with the Exams Officer regarding public and school examinations and resits, and coordinating the setup and stripdown of exam rooms and furniture;
  • Overseeing the general upkeep of the School's fleet of transport and associated tasks;
  • Ensuring that Caretaking and Cleaning staff adhere to all Health and Safety working practices, including school procedures and policies on the storage of hazardous materials and chemicals;
  • Overseeing the operation of the school laundry, including supervision of one member of staff;
  • Overseeing the upkeep and cleanliness of the school's cleaning machines and equipment;
  • The ordering and distribution of maintenance stores and paper products around the school for hygiene purposes.


The above list of duties is not exhaustive, and the post-holder may be required to perform such other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Bursar or Headmaster from time to time.


Essential Requirements:


  • Previous supervisory experience in a Cleaning / Caretaking role
  • Awareness of COSHH regulations
  • Good Standards of Literacy and Numeracy
  • Technical skills and a good knowledge of DIY
  • Able to undertake the physically demanding requirements of the post which includes a certain amount of lifting, and use of equipment, according the H&S guidelines
  • Clean driving license

Desirable:


  • Supervisory qualifications e.g. NEBS Certificate in Supervisory Management
  • Experience of working in a caretaking capacity in a school or other education establishment
  • Experience of driving a minibus

Hours:

7.00 am to 3.00 pm, Monday to Friday.


Attendance at School events outside these hours from time to time, as well as Founders' Day and INSET days towards the beginning or end of School holidays.


Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year, plus Bank Holidays, to be taken at times agreed by the Bursar as being appropriate for the needs of the School.
