Assistant Director Traffic and Parking - Newham Council**
£73,365 - £93,054 per annum

Newham's parking service is one of the largest in London and encompasses on street enforcement, moving traffic contravention enforcement, a vehicle removals service, car pound and emissions based parking.

The service has a proven track record in successful project delivery and continuous improvement and innovation to address current and emerging challenges.

However, there is still more to be done and as our new Assistant Director you will lead on a wide variety of high profile projects from a large scale CPZ review to tackling persistent evaders and improving our recovery rate.


About You:


We are looking for someone who possess a deep understanding of parking enforcement and policy coupled with a proven history of service improvement and successful engagement with a diverse internal and external stakeholders.

You will be a leader who is experienced in managing a large number of directly employed staff in a fast paced working environment.

You will be adept in managing suppliers and formulating innovative solutions to complex and multifaceted operational and policy challenges.


We want our new Assistant Director to be someone that can continue to establish the right culture and ethos across our parking service and someone who can support and further develop our dedicated and experienced operational, policy, project and customer teams.

You'll need to be a progressive, outcome focused problem solver who is able to contribute to the wider success of the Environment and Sustainable Transport Directorate in meeting its Corporate Plan commitments.

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR.

When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London.

The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country.

It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.

It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family.

There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock.

It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.- Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
