About the Role:

Beechwood Surgery has a fantastic opportunity for a GP Assistant to join our team on a full time basis.


General practice assistants (GPAs) form part of a multi-disciplinary team within primary care, providing a support role by carrying out administrative tasks which helps to free-up GPs time and contributes to the smooth running of the surgery.

The successful applicant will support the GPs in the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine tasks on behalf of the GP thereby freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

The main responsibilities of the GPA role will include:

  • Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others, such as clinical pharmacists etc.
  • Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and followup appointments for patients
  • Completing basic (nonopinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, e.g., getting an oncall doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s).
  • Experienced medical administrators, with excellent IT and typing skills
  • Adaptable and friendly with strong administration, time management and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communicators who work in a confidential and discreet manner and are able to think on their feet in a busy working environment.
  • Able to multitask, work hard and maintain high level of attention to detail when under pressure.
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as comfortable working independently.
