Job Purpose


The post holder will provide visible professional nursing leadership, care governance, quality assurance, and develop the nursing workforce across Health and Social Care Partnership (EHSCP), ensuring the delivery of high standards of professional and clinical nursing practice.


Accountable to the Chief Nurse for maintaining and further developing high standards of nursing care provided to service users, ensuring compliance with best practice and national and local policies and guidelines; developing improvements in nursing practice and influencing future service delivery and nursing strategy.


Responsible for direct management of senior nursing staff including the Clinical Nurse Managers for Mental Health, Substance Misuse and Learning Disability for all aspects of staff governance, recruitment and selection, appraisal and personal development planning and individual performance management as appropriate within areas of responsibility.


To be a visible nursing leader accessible across community and primary care settings, from whom staff, students, patients and their families can seek advice and support.

This role will include the authority to instigate changes which ensures patient and their families receive timely patient centred, safe and effective care.


This post will have a delegated responsibility to provide an overarching role representing EHSCP nursing at a range of committees and forums across Lothian and in National Working Groups creating a corporate and cohesive response to actions required on a EHSCP wide basis e.g.

HAI, clinical documentation; workforce planning.

This post will play a pivotal role in the governance and assurance of Excellence in Care across EHSCP.
