An exciting opportunity has a risen for a qualified Registered nursing associate who is dynamic, independent thinking and works well in a multidisciplinary team to join our Outpatient nursing team.


Within this post you have the opportunity to learn new skills with regards to specialist wound dressings, learn to scrub for minor ENT and Maxillofacial surgical procedures and assist in ENT complexed scoping clinics, that are undertaken within the outpatient treatment centre.

  • The postholder has the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care and undertaking defined interventions independently, in line with the patient's plan of care, as agreed by a Registered Nurse.
  • The postholder is expected to work under the direction and indirect or remote supervision of a Registered Nurse within their defined practice setting.

Clinical Practice / Direct Patient Care

  • Exercise personal responsibility working within defined parameters of practice, taking the initiative in a variety of situations and performing a range of clinical and care skills consistent with the role, responsibilities and professional values of an assistant practitioner raising any concerns to a registered nurse.
  • Assist the registered nurse in the ongoing assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care.
  • Perform and accurately record clinical observations, such as blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse.
  • Undertake a range of defined routine and nonroutine clinical tasks, such as cannulation, venepuncture, ECG recording.
  • Assist patients to mobilise, with or without the use of aids, learning and using correct methods of mínimal patient handling techniques.
  • Ensure patient's discomfort or pain is identified and reported to the registered nurse in a timely manner.
  • Prepare patients for identified clinical interventions i.e. diagnostic investigations, operations, etc.
  • Undertake pressure area care using relieving practices and devices.
  • Care for patients with dignity and respect and in keeping with the Poole Approach, and ensure the safety of individuals is maintained at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and legible written and electronic records.
  • Applies the principles of the Mental Capacity Act / Deprivation of Liberties and other key legislation to their everyday practice, reporting any concerns / issues to the Registered Nurse or registered care professional.
Specific to role.

Under the direct or in-direct Supervision of the Registered Nurse and with the appropriate training and competencies:

  • Provide patient support and advocacy, identifying the type of patient coming to the treatment clinic and give the appropriate paperwork to the patient and support the patient with filling out paperwork.
  • You will be required to set up the treatment room and clinic and be able to use the various equipment and computer systems competently. You will be required to measure blood pressure and other observations.
  • You will have a sound knowledge and understanding of the cleaning process and storage of the laryngeal endoscope and ensure the scope is sent for decontamination appropriately.
  • You will be required to support the enhanced care clinic that involves working with the clinicians and the admin team.
  • You will be required to clean short scopes during clinics.
  • You will need to demonstrate physical dexterity and accuracy to assist with Local Anaesthetic (LA) surgical procedures.
  • Assist Clinician during LA Surgical clinics.
  • Take part in the LOCSIP and/or WHO check list for all Procedures.
  • Ensure sterility is maintained and the infection control policy is followed during surgical procedures.
  • Take responsibility for instrumentation during and after the procedure, ensure the policy for safe clearing and/or disposal of instrumentation is followed.
  • Ensure the sharps policy is implemented and followed.
  • Provide patients with adequate postoperative information and supplies to ensure a safe and informed recovery.
  • Assist the Registered Nurse with the recovery of patients post LA surgical procedure.
  • Complete all local anaesthetic paperwork before and after the procedure.
