Managing Surveyor

The Opportunity


The main aim of the Managing Surveyor (MS) will be to manage the commercial team to ensure that financial performance of new connections projects which are in the construction phase are accurate, transparent, and measured against project budgets.


Additionally, the MS will provide a crucial link between Construction senior management and Finance to assist with a variety of company financial reporting, whilst also providing feedback to the Estimating team on any purchase price variances encountered.

The
Managing Surveyor will;
- lead the overall Energetics commercial function with regards to people, processes, and strategy.
- engage with a variety of internal and external stakeholders for all MS activities related to the business.
- manage the overall development of a process improvement strategy for estimating systems and consolidation of supporting systems.
- lead the delivery of the delegation of authority processes.
- lead the strategic procurement of key commodity categories for materials.
- previous experience of working within the construction sector
- experience of operating in a complex business environment in senior quantity surveying position
- preference for degree and/or professional qualification, however not essential
- excellent analytical skills with the ability to work closely with divisional stakeholders to improve bottom line performance
- demonstrable successful track record of supporting business growth
- strong experience of leading systems improvement projects and change management.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities:


  • Support Project Managers (PMs) to understand/highlight the financial performance of their projects.
  • Drive the forecast/cost to complete process to ensure variances to budget are communicated to Finance as early as possible in the delivery cycle.
  • Provide detailed financial information to Finance for budget amendments and production of monthend management reports.
  • Ensure FM206 process is completed against variations from budget that cannot be recouped following a project forecast, providing feedback to the Finance and estimating teams where required.
  • Mentor and develop the commercial team.
  • Create and manage reporting KPIs for the commercial team.
  • Liaise with the operational teams to understand civil subcontractor costs, ensuring any anomalies are swiftly actioned.
  • Provide feedback on project overspends associated with price variances from original estimates.
  • Provide commercial support where required across the business.
  • Complete monthly reporting on the financial performance for each project.
  • Assist the team with the completion of actions arising out of the PPV process.
  • Act as point of escalation for commercial matters.
