    Job description:

We are looking for a Specialist Vehicle Standard Assessor in Vehicle Testing, to provide high quality, value for money testing services within the testing facilities network.

We want you to assess the condition of a variety of classes of vehicles against the statutory standards on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport.


You will also provide technical support and guidance online, face to face and by telephone to Vehicle Standards Assessors, other Specialist Vehicle Standards Assessors, managers, team leaders and testing facilities.


We are looking for a self-motivated individual who can work independently and flexibly to provide high quality, value for money testing services within the testing facilities network.

Assess the condition of a variety of classes of vehicles against the statutory standards on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Inspecting of all vehicle types related to categories of specialist schemes
  • Inspecting of PSV's to ensure they comply with legislation as a technical expert providing advice and clarification for DVSA colleagues to support accurate decision making throughout the network
  • Issuing and removing prohibition notices affecting the safe and continued use of vehicles presented for testing
  • Contributing and sharing specialist knowledge as Subject Matter Expert on telephone and online forums
  • Acting as a point of contact for testing facility providers on specialist tests, offering front line advice for queries and complaints, ensuring a high standard of service delivery
  • Collaborating with the deployment team to deliver testing services at varying testing facilities as needed in line with contract
  • Providing feedback to Testing Network Manager and Network Business Manager regarding any issues that impact on flexibility, quality or cost of service delivery
  • Contributing to local business continuity plans
  • Ensuring that DVSA's operating instructions, processes and testing policies are being followed are complied with by all parties
  • Ensuring all locations comply with technical requirement changes as directed by legislation / DVSA policy

Person specification:


We are looking for an individual who can raise service standards and be willing to make decisions to improve customer experience, while contributing to the development and continual enhancement of services.

As a confident communicator, you will deliver the right messages to the business in a professional and clear way.

Excellent communication skills are pivotal to this role with the ability to provide guidance and robust recommendations, where your exceptional engagement and relationship building skills will enable you to influence and challenge.


We will look to you to provide expert knowledge of technical components and their operation, in sufficient depth be able to test the technical knowledge of others.

You are able to explain technical detail to colleagues in language and terms that are easily understood and accessible.

We want you to always be looking for the next challenge and keeping yourself up to date with developments in the industry.


You must have a vocational related qualification in Motor Vehicle Maintenance & Repair at level 3 or IMI ATA registration at diagnostic technician level or IRTEC registration at advanced technician level or Engtech registration to be eligible for the role.


NB:
An NVQ level 3 on its own will not be accepted as a qualification. This is only accepted as proof of experience.

For this role, you will be based in Kidderminster, your presence at this location will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you.

We operate a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and office locations, giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work.

There will also be regular travel to Bromsgrove and Birmingham and you will be expected to work within a wide geographical area and drive on DVSA business, which may inclu
