Description
The Locality Clinical Lead will be responsible for the caseload management & supervision of MHST practitioners.

The post holder will work with and support the MHST Operational Manager in developing teams and support across the Locality to support the delivery of EMHP skills and facilitate wider service transformation within the local children's mental health system.


The training, supervision and service experience will equip the MHST staff with the necessary knowledge, attitude, and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value driven service.

To oversee the assessment.

Working in partnership with schools.

To support and empower children, young people, and families to make informed choices about their care.

To demonstrate cultural competence and operate at all times from an inclusive values base which recognises and values diversity.

To work with referrals within agreed national and local protocols, including signposting and referrals to other agencies.

To undertake accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

To be able to design, adapt and modify clinical materials.

Escalate cases where the level of need becomes beyond scope.

Provide a range of information and support to schools for evidence-based psychological treatments in a variety of medias.

Adhere to an agreed activity relating to contacts offered, and sessions carried out per week.

Keep accurate records of all activity in line with service protocols.

Work in collaboration with children, young people, and communities to enhance and widen access to support health promotion.


To provide some joint specialist mental health assessments and interventions for schools, parents, children, and young people with the EMHP supervisees.


To provide reports and communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner concerning the assessment, formulation, and treatment plans of clients.

To support MHST staff to liaise with other education, health, social care.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Service Development Management and Policy


To support the strategic and practical development of the MHST initiative within the service and wider children's mental health system, under the direction of the Clinical Lead, Education Lead & Head of Service.

To manage and screen referrals into the MHST.

To support the operational manager to manage the day‐to‐day running of the MHSTs.

To regulate and manage the case load of staff within the MHSTs.

To take a lead in monitoring clinical outcomes and activity data.

To assist the Operational Manager by undertaking delegated routine team-based functions, as required, such as: chairing meetings, overseeing evaluations/audits.


To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.

To be involved, as appropriate, in the recruitment, short listing and interviewing of staff within the MHSTs.


To attend, as required, a range of interagency meetings to represent the service, in a delegated role, offering guidance, where appropriate, ensuring that issues relating to the service are noted and brought to the attention of service managers/leads.


To assist, in the integration and development of user participation, outcomes measures, and evidence-based treatment approaches in line with the wider SETCAMHS strategy for service improvement.


To initiate and oversee service development, such as joint working with other agencies and developing new interventions within the service.

To ensure that MHSTs are covered by the clinical governance arrangements for the service.

This would include reviewing policies relating to risk management and sole working and ensuring that these policies are adhered to by the EMHP workforce.

Service Evaluation and Research


To utilise theory, evidence‐based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
