We have a fantastic opportunity to join our Finance Business Partnering and Reporting team as
Finance Manager - Financial Accounting.Based from our head office in Basingstoke, you'll combine office and home working in line with our hybrid approach.


The role


Reporting into our Group Financial Controller, you'll oversee and manage the general financial accounting function and processes for Sovereign, including year end statutory reporting, month end financial close process and group consolidation for managementreporting, forecasts and budgets.

You'll work closely with a team of accountants and use your expertise to provide timely, accurate and comprehensive statutory and internal financial accounts and support key operational managers and other internal stakeholdersfor all capital and cash flow expenditure streams.


Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the month end with timely and accurate delivery of monthly management reporting of Group Balance Sheet and Cash Flow, including risk and variance analysis and detailed commentary
  • Leading on Year End financial close and production of our statutory financial statements, using your expertise to ensure adherence to relevant accounting standards
  • Collaborating with both financial and nonfinancial staff to ensure the production and delivery of accurate accounts, forecasts and budgets
  • Being the primary point of contact and support to External and Internal auditors, providing all accounting and financial reports and documents needed, and coordinating submissions by other finance and operational teams
  • Providing support to the Group Financial Controller for the development and coordination of the requirements of month end ledger control, ensuring that all balance sheet transactions initiated by the team (e.g. accruals) are reconciled monthly and thatall transactions are appropriately represented in the ledgers

What we're looking for
You'll be a fully qualified Accountant with significant experience in a similar role. You'll need to have strong technical and practical knowledge of the principles of financial accounting and financial statements.


You'll also need:

  • A proven track record of working in a technical accounting capacity delivering complex reporting and Statutory outputs, including detailed report writing and analysis
  • A strong, clear working knowledge of financial processes and controls
  • A professional and logical approach to problem solving with strong analytical skills
  • Strong initiative, curiosity and drive with the ability to work to deadlines and maintain high attention to detail
  • Ability to build lasting relationships with stakeholders and demonstrate strong influencing skills
  • To be highly numerate and computer literate with strong Microsoft skills covering Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of SORP for Housing Associations would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Knowledge of Agresso Accounting system would be beneficial
