In the UK, Cortland has a six-year strategy targeting a development portfolio of 10,000 Build-to-Rent (BTR) apartments and a management portfolio of 75,000 units, primarily the London commuter belt areas and UK regional cities.

Currently, we have one development that is open in Watford, two more - one in Manchester and one in Birmingham - under construction and set to open in the next year, and more in the pipeline.


Role Responsibilities


The Talent Advisor will work closely with the Senior Talent Manager Europe & APAC to ensure efficient delivery of Talent services to the internal customers.


Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with hiring managers to discuss their staffing needs and gain a clear understanding of their matching qualifications
  • Introduce new hires into the family, creating a smooth transition that is comfortable for all and ensure new hires feel part of the family immediately
  • Work with the Hiring Managers to set new hires up for success with day plans and regularly check in with new joiners.
  • Provide managers with guidelines, procedures and available tools to facilitate the delivery of all HR programs in order to enhance manager experience.
  • Support the delivery of all HR services, including payroll and benefits and pension administration.
  • Interact regularly with all associates in the UK
  • Provide general HR support and advice covering all employee lifecycle activity to both employees and managers, working in partnership with HR Coordinators where relevant
  • Lead on employee relations matters to ensure that all casework is managed in a fair and transparent manner. This will include absence management, capability, disciplinaries, grievances, flexible working, restructures and redundancies
  • Provide primary support and advice to hiring managers on recruitment activity, including salary benchmarking, interviewing and support with writing job descriptions
  • Manage all queries on maternity leave and other familyfriendly policies, including meeting with individuals and providing support and advice before, during and after periods of leave
  • Review and development of policies and processes
  • Contribute to annual HR processes such as performance development and salary reviews
  • Work closely with the Talent Coordinator to monitor monthly payroll actions, including fixedterm contract end dates
  • Lead, support, and actively participate in HR projects to assist with the ongoing improvement of the HR offering; seeking opportunities to refine and streamline existing work practices
  • Maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality at all times
  • Serve as the goto mediator who works closely with managers on employee relations and helps associates resolve problems with fellow associates.
  • Conduct investigations and implement disciplinary resolutions
  • Help facilitate associates transitioning out of the company by conducting exit interviews and completing separation notices
  • Serve as a resource to managers, and coach them on employee performance plans, terminations, and talent's best practices performance improvement plans.
  • Manage the internal transfer process by screening and promoting opportunities for current associates

Your Building Blocks of Success

  • Proven HR Generalist experience, having worked on a variety of different employee relations cases
  • Experience in supporting teams across different offices
  • HR or CIPD Level 5 and above qualification is desired
  • Ability to travel across the country to different offices, sometimes at short notice


  • Technologically savvy

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS software
  • Strong excel skills and the ability to efficiently manipulate and interpret data from reports.
  • Strong presentations skills with the ability to flex style to have impact both in person or virtually.
