What you'll be doing
As
Community Engagement Lead you will have the following accountabilities:

Community Engagement

  • Develop and manage Community team, acting as a mentor and leader.
  • Manage the production and delivery of Community Liaison and Investment plans in conjunction with the Stakeholder Manager and Community team.
  • Liaise with the HS2 community engagement team and act in partnership to promote the benefits of the project.
  • Proactively engage with the wider BBVS team reviewing project impacts, to mitigate construction impacts on local stakeholders and the community.
  • Manage and attend relevant project and supply chain meetings to ensure that all communications (including Advanced Notification Letters) and community relations activities are planned and delivered within required timescales.
  • Develop training workshops and toolbox talks to ensure the wider project team and supply chain are aware of resident sensitivities and develop proactive plans and mitigation to ensure they act considerately.
  • Engage with the community to provide appropriate information at the right time. Be the first line of response to resolve issues of concern.
  • Manage, investigate and resolve any public complaints including any directed by the HS2 Helpdesk or Project Manager, initiate any necessary enforcement or corrective action and advise the HS2 Helpdesk of the outcome of action taken within agreed timescales.
  • Facilitate all enquiry and complaint resolution in a prompt and professional manner. Liaise with the client and internal BBVS teams to reduce complaints.
  • Manage resources and personnel required for communications and community relations activities / events, including public exhibitions and community meetings.
  • Oversee community investment initiatives, ensuring that a large percentage of these are classed as sustainable, developing a bank of community investment initiatives which can be cascading down to the supply chain.
  • Ensure that community safety is given priority consideration in all activity undertaken on behalf of the project.

Communications

  • Manage the production of highquality communications materials on the project, including the preparation and issue of team newsflashes, project newsletters, team briefings, presentations, award submissions and posters.
  • Act as a brand champion and manage the BBVS and HS2 brands, ensuring appropriate. guidelines are followed, cascading guidance down to the BBVS team and wider supply chain.
  • Coordinate all communications input to the BBVS and partner company intranet sites.
  • Manage the site/supply chain Considerate Constructors scheme registration. This includes scheme registration, compiling evidence registers, raising awareness, arranging audits and updating the team on outcomes.
  • Contribute to the BBVS forward planner of media activities.
  • Enhance and protect the reputation of BBVS, our customer, and our partners through the delivery of an effective and engaging stakeholder communication plan.
  • Interface with the Balfour Beatty Group Communications function who take the lead on reputational risks and opportunities that have the potential to impact the project brand ensuring awareness and understanding of sensitivities and knowing when to escalate depending on stakeholder and topic.

Who we're looking for

Essential skills & experience:

  • Team leadership/Management experience
  • Public Relations experience and understanding of how the media works
  • Experience in dealing with the public and external parties
  • Experience of being able to respond to complaints and enquiries in a professional, sensitive and informative way
  • Experience of working in a communication environment
  • Extensive Experience working in a construction or infrastructure environments, ideally with major projects

Desirable skills & experience:

  • Experience working in a design environment
  • Adobe InDesign or Photoshop
