Description

The Formal Learning Advisor will take on a pivotal role in supporting the development and implementation of a range of formal learning (schools) activities across the Trust.

This will include collaborating with colleagues, co-ordinating the Formal Learning Network, assisting with the planning and delivery of projects, and ensuring consistency and quality of schools programmes through developing guidance and templates.

Context

Access to heritage is fundamental to the National Trust for Scotland's charitable purpose, and through our learning activities we enable people to intellectually access and experience our places, their significance, and stories.

A 5-year Strategy aims at expanding formal learning provision at the National Trust for Scotland, mainly focussed on Primary Schools in the first instance.

Its ambition is that all Scottish Primary school pupils will be engaging with our formal learning products, experiences, and resources on an annual basis as part of their classroom-based and outdoor curricular studies.

Following the appointment of the Senior Heritage Learning Advisor in May 2022 to take forward the Strategy, a number of key programmes have been established and will be supported by this role:

  • Introduction of standardised approaches to schools advertising, booking, monitoring, KPIs and evaluation
  • Establishment of the Formal Learning Network as a community of practice for Trust staff who work with schools
  • Development of _Timesliders_, the Trust's new schools engagement programme, utilising digital technologies, live theatre and storytelling
  • Creation of Regional Learning Plans taking into account local audiences and Trust places and properties.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the implementation of formal learning (schools) programmes.
  • Lead planning sessions with properties to advise on the internal and external operational resources required to help deliver formal learning programmes successfully.
  • Undertake effective project management including identifying, managing and controlling risks via the Trust-wide project management framework, escalating risks as required.
  • Assist with the development, delivery, monitoring and reporting of projects at properties such as _Timesliders._
  • Develop and deliver products that extend our formal learning activity working collaboratively with property staff, including digital resources, advertising materials, activity packs, and other guidance and templates as required.
  • Coordinate and develop the Formal Learning Network; including arranging and hosting meetings/training sessions, writing regular newsletters/communications, managing the Sharepoint Resources Hub, and promoting the Network across the wider Trust.
  • Support the development and delivery of Regional Learning Plans, for example providing data about local school audiences, ensuring property staff have relevant documentation, and maintaining records of activity and key contacts across the organisation.
  • Work with external partners and stakeholders, building on existing professional networks to keep us abreast of current thinking in formal learning.
  • Record, monitor, and report on formal learning activity and provision across the Trust in relation to the corporate Strategy and KPIs.
  • Carryout any essential administrative tasks as required; e.g. procurement of suppliers, contributing to monthly reports, arranging monthly team meetings, etc.
The current duties of this job will require a criminal records (Basic/Non-Updated Disclosure Scotland) check to be carried out.
