Description
To assist in the provision of the aseptic preparation service under the supervision of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists including:

  • Aseptic preparation of Parenteral Nutrition (PN) for paediatric and neonatal patients (including Bone Marrow Transplant patients), using pharmaceutical isolators.
  • Pre and inprocess checking of PN ingredients and volumes upon successful completion of accredited training and validation.
  • Aseptic preparation of parenteral chemotherapy drugs and related treatments, using pharmaceutical isolators.
Note that the role is suitable for school leavers as all training is given on the job.

  • Aseptic preparation of Parenteral Nutrition (PN) for paediatric and neonatal patients (including Bone Marrow Transplant patients) in the Trust.
  • Performing pre and in-process checks during the PN preparation process, upon successful completion of accredited training and validation.
  • Aseptic preparation of intravenous chemotherapy drugs and related treatments, upon successful completion of the in-house training and assessment.
  • Setting up of work trays with items and equipment required for the aseptic preparation of all products in the unit.
  • Cleaning and maintaining pharmaceutical isolator/s on a sessional basis.
  • Performing regular checks and recording on allocated isolator/s prior to commencing work in that isolator.
  • Undertaking operator and process validations, as determined by the Quality Assurance programme in the unit.
  • Undertaking selected modules from the appropriate pharmacy/aseptic qualification that are relevant to the post, within the timescale specified.
  • Assisting with on-the-job training of new staff, in tasks which you have been deemed competent to perform.
  • Adhering to the national and local guidelines relating to Intrathecal chemotherapy, only performing those duties for which you have been accredited.
  • Cleaning and maintaining specialist equipment used for aseptic preparation processes.
  • Assisting with cleaning of the facility when required.
  • Goods receiving orders and deliveries of ingredients, drugs, and consumables used in the unit.
