About the Role:

Baddow Village Surgery is looking to welcome a qualified dispenser into our busy practice, to play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team.


The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;
  • To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;
  • To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;
  • Process hospital letters;
  • Process dossette boxes;
  • Manage ordering stock and stock control;
  • Preparation of monthly returns to the prescription pricing bureau;
  • Answering and dealing with dispensary phone enquiries;
  • Monitoring patients' exemption statuses;
  • Sorting and disposing of unwanted/returned medication;
  • Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the dispensary and surgery, as directed by the either the dispensary manager or practice manager.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • You will have at least a Diploma Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification;
  • At least 2 years dispensary and pharmacy experience;
  • Excellent clinical and medication knowledge;
  • Understanding and experience of working as a dispenser in GP practice setting;
  • The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career;
  • The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multidisciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making;
  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;
  • Excellent patient facing interpersonal communication skills.
