If you're an Associate Specialist looking for a new substantive opportunity to join a friendly multidisciplinary team in an established secure service setting, then come and work at our Breast Service at King's College Hospital in Denmark Hill.


  • To contribute alongside the consultant body to an excellent standard of care covering a full range of specialist diagnosis, treatment and management of patients
  • To provide expertise in the management and treatment of patients with breast cancers including overall responsibility for patient care
  • To be actively involved in delivering high quality patient centred care and contributing to safety and quality initiatives and improvement projects being undertaken in the Trust
  • To actively participate or initiate departmental QI and national audits are strongly encouraged
  • To ensure that the requirements of clinical governance are met. Staff are accountable and responsible for maintaining their own clinical competence and acting within their competence
  • To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the administration of the department
  • To undertake teaching duties as required and, in particular, to take an active part in the education programme of trainee medical staff and medical students
  • To contribute and support departmental meetings
  • To fully comply with requirements for annual appraisal and job planning and maintain and up to date mandatory training record
  • To undertake CPD in order to maintain and develop personal professional standards
  • To undertake occasional additional duties as required to cover absent colleagues and flexibility in rota arrangements

This is a new post in breast surgery at Denmark Hill; with reconstructive surgery at St Thomas'.

The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care for breast patients within Surgery.


Major areas of service development include day surgery, survivor ship management, oncoplastic surgery and implant based reconstruction on the Denmark Hill site.

It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of aspects of these services depending upon their interests and experience.

The post will be at both sites and the proposed Job Plan is attached.

There will be an average of 10 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder being allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities.


As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients.


Integral to these responsibilities is the following:

  • The provision of a first class clinical service
  • Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the speciality
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King's College London
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans
  • Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the speciality, the Division or the Trust.


Clinical activities will vary each week depending on the departmental disposition, individual areas of interest and overall work environment within Denmark Hill.
