    Job Description

    The Donkey Sanctuary is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join our dedicated team at our fully equipped veterinary hospital in Honiton, UK. As a key member of our Equine Operations team, you will be responsible for the clinical care of our donkeys and mules residing on our seven farms within a 30-mile radius.

    Your primary duties will include undertaking routine and emergency clinical care, monitoring animal health, and providing advice and education on donkey health and welfare to internal and external stakeholders.

    To succeed in this role, you must possess a veterinary degree with MRCVS, experience in equine practice, and a strong interest in donkey medicine. You should also have a welfare-driven attitude towards veterinary medicine and experience with herd health programmes.

    In return for your expertise, we offer a competitive salary, pension scheme, life assurance, and generous holiday entitlement. You will also benefit from our wellbeing team, recorded Pilates and Yoga classes, and long service awards.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Undertake routine and emergency clinical care of animals resident at The Donkey Sanctuary
    • Monitor animal health and advise on management
    • Maintain effective communication within the Veterinary Department and Welfare team
    • Visit and assess animal health in holding bases and DAA centres
    • Provide advice and education on donkey health and welfare
    • Support training of visitors to the Veterinary Department
