Overview:


You will be part of a team of coaches working to empower individuals to pursue, achieve, and sustain their work, learning and volunteering aspirations.

Working with individuals to identify their strengths, you will facilitate a truly personalised journey through which individuals can build skills and confidence to move forward positively in their lives.

Brighton YMCA's EVOLVE service provides 1-1 coaching for up to 6 months for goals around work, learning or volunteering. Depending on each individual's goals and circumstances, this time frame can be tailored to meet the clients need.


You will manage a caseload drawn from all levels of the service as well as provide advice and support during drop-in sessions and running workshops and activities.


As part of this role as a Work and Learning Coach, you will work across YMCA Brighton projects to provide 1-1 coaching to individuals who have set goals around work, learning or volunteering.

Occasional working outside of office hours may be necessary to offer maximum flexibility to potential and existing coaches.


Person Specification:

Understanding of the barriers that homeless, marginalised or socially excluded people face in relation to work, learning and volunteering; and ways of overcoming them

Understanding of coaching approaches

An Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) or coaching/mentoring or related qualification or accreditation

An understanding of trauma-informed care and psychologically-informed approaches.

A broad understanding of welfare benefits/welfare reform and the impact of these upon transitioning to work

A clear understanding of, and commitment to, client confidentiality and professional boundaries

Demonstrable experience in supporting people to achieve their personal goals and bring about positive change

Experience in delivering information, advice and guidance services

Previous experience in delivering workshops, learning or coaching activities

Experience in managing challenging behavioral or circumstances in an assertive, positive and supportive way

Resourcefulness and adaptability - able to work to own initiative and as part of a team

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with and motivate others

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, databases and the internet.

Excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work towards multiple deadlines

Ability to work in partnership with outside agencies and others, identifying and developing new partnerships as appropriate to key clients

Is emotionally resilient, self-aware and able to reflect on own approach and practise

Commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion including amongst those facing additional barriers to seeking help

Commitment to taking a client-centered, strengths-based approach

Commitment to participating in learning and personal development
