Trainee CNC 'Gun Drill' Machinist
The X-Cel Group, consisting of X-Cel Superturn, Colson X-Cel and Vector X-Cel are manufacturers of high specification component parts and assemblies, with HQ based in the national hub of engineering expertise - the Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP) S60 5FS, and at Bessemer Way, S60 1FB.
Following a new machine acquisition we are pleased to release 2x brand new development opportunities to join the valued team with Vector X-Cel based at S60 1FB.
Trainee CNC Gun Drill Boring Machinist
This is a permanent, full time opportunity for 2 CNC Machinists who are either early in their career and still developing, or who are interested in a change of direction & re-training to specialise in Gun Drill.
Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Being trained and developed in Centre line and Prismatic drilling, using exotic materials e.g. stainless steel & high nickel alloys
It's a Technidrill machine with Heidenhain control system
Our trainee Gun Drill Machinists should have basic experience in;
- Able to understand engineering drawings
- Able to set or modify existing (basic) programs
- Use measuring equipment
- Safely loading varying size components into the machines
- Monitoring machine cycle times
Training will be provided, to develop in the following areas in order to become an effective Gun Drill machinist;
- On a daily basis, review the machine work to list and ensure all tooling and material is available to support the schedule
- Identify and highlight any potential problems which will affect the schedule, such as routing/tooling/allocated time etc
- Participate in Continuous Improvement of manufacturing methods to increase the effectiveness and efficiency within the operation
- Perform "in process inspection checks" and ensure that all paperwork is correctly completed before passing on to the next stage
- Ensure on an ongoing basis, that the machine is running within performance parameters without compromising Health and Safety/Quality/Output
- Ensure that high levels of housekeeping are maintained within your work area.
- Take full responsibility for the machines and area around them
- Uphold health and Safety, environmental and quality policies
What you'll need;
- NVQ 3 or equivalent in Engineering preferred
- Strong work ethic
- Willingness and ability to follow management directions to achieve results
- Excellent timekeeping & communication skills
- Enthusiasm and strong desire to learn
- Ability to work alone and part of a team
Hours & Remuneration:
Core Hours:
Monday-Thursday 07:00-16:00, Friday 07:00-12:00 (39 hours per week)
The rate mentioned is a starting rate & depending on experience - it's intended for the successors to develop into competent machinists, and will be compensated according to skill level.
