Main duties of the job:


  • To be the main point of contact as receptionist on the Cardiac Investigations Unit.
  • To have an overview of the outstanding position of clinics/patients in attendance, throughout the day.
  • To respond promptly and professionally to internal and external telephone enquiries, ensuring accurate information is recorded and disseminated to all parties.
  • To regularly check and action the answerphone messages.
  • To alert and liaise directly with the appropriate physiologist in relation to telephone calls escalating inpatient tests.
  • To liaise with patients, relatives, General Practitioners, clinical and administrative staff over the telephone, face to face and in written correspondence.
  • To checkin patients for Cardiac appointments.
  • To ensure that all clinics are outcomed [cashedup] at the end of the working day.
  • To forward test results to internal and external requestors in a timely manner, making checks for further address information as required.

  • Experience of working in a public/patient facing role

Desirable criteria:


  • Previous work experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working with Cerner, or similar electronic Patient Administration Systems

Skills and aptitudes:

  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to use initiative and problem solve, in a busy clinical environment
  • Typing and data entry skills
  • Good level of computer literacy skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
  • Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of the service
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Time management and organisational skills
