Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) provides an extremely rewarding opportunity to combat terrorism. We work closely with partners to tackle the most serious harm to our communities, and bring offenders to justice.

We offer an exciting opportunity for a Detective Inspector to lead our Covert Ops teams.

We are seeking a driven individual with relevant experience of managing covert operations across the Counter Terrorism or Serious & Organised Crime landscape.

The successful applicant will manage our CT Police Operations Room (CTPOR) team, as well as our Technical Operations team, Surveillance teams (including Armed Surveillance Officers), Surveillance Development Team and Planners.

As such, applicants should hold or have previously held National Covert Surveillance accreditation to 'Level 1' (Mobile surveillance), and have experience of working with Authorised Firearms Officers in a surveillance context.

Applicants will be qualified as a PIP2 Detective or have relevant equivalent experience.

Required knowledge/skills
Essential

  • Has relevant experience of managing covert operations in either a Counter Terrorism, Serious crime, Major crime, or Firearms context.
  • Experience of working in Counter Terrorism environment or covert policing environment.
  • Holds current or has held National covert surveillance accreditation to 'Level 1'.
  • Knowledge and experience of Budget Management.
  • Detailed knowledge of PACE, RIPA and Human Rights legislation.
  • Has detailed knowledge of Terrorism Act, Criminal Law and Disclosure Processes.
  • Qualified to PIP2 Detective or equivalent.
Desirable

  • Knowledge of TACT legislation/CONTEST Strategy.
  • Skilled Communicator, able to present information efficiently to variety of audiences.

Additional information

  • Computer literate.
  • This role requires Leadership/Supervisory skills.
  • Ensure that fully auditable records are maintained regarding the deployment of equipment.
  • Ensure best practice opportunities are maximised through liaison with all relevant partners.
  • Monitor and effectively manage budgetary matters within the Unit.
  • Ensure comprehensive risk assessments for operations are prepared.
  • Manage and provide an out of hours response to new operations or to facilitate completion of work undertaken.
  • Perform oncall arrangements for immediate response if required.
  • Hold a full and current driving licence.
  • Requirement to achieve and maintain DV vetting status.
  • Travel/work across the SE region and outside the region if required.
