This position is working for South Cambridgeshire District Council which is based in

Cambourne near Cambridge, St Ives, and St Neots.

Description of Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the South Cambs Hall Building is kept maintained to a high standard and that all building users (i.e., staff, tenants, Members, visitors etc.) are provided a safe and secure working environment.
  • To ensure that all maintenance issues throughout the South Cambridgeshire Hall building are identified and rectified in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensuring service requests are processed and undertaken in a timely and efficient manner, that customer expectations are managed and that records are current and accurately kept.
  • Ensure that the Facilities Management processes and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Demonstrate a positive and supportive image of the Facilities Management Team to all building users.

Key Responsibilities / Specific Duties

  • To take a proactive approach to all general building maintenance issues in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the South Cambs Hall building and logging issues via a facilities management software system.
  • Rectify any issues within skillsets and training wherever possible, whilst ensuring that appropriate task specific PPE is always worn (i.e., safety footwear, gloves, etc.).
  • Escalation of any issue which requires a specialised contractor to the Facilities and
Compliance Officer (i.e., boiler repairs, plumber, electrical repairs etc.)

  • Required to be available for 'Out of Hours On call' which will include Bank Holidays and weekends.
  • Caretakers on call will be expected to be available to attend the South Cambs Hall site within a 1hour response window without fail in response to an emergency.
  • To ensure that all reactive maintenance issues logged by SCDC staff via the Facilities
Management software system are dealt with promptly and in a professional manner.

  • Completion of regular external grounds patrols of South Cambs Hall to ensure all obstructions and/or potential hazards are removed wherever possible (i.e., slippery surfaces, moss, etc.) and general waste is removed regularly to ensure the aesthetical appearance is kept to a high standard (litter picking).
  • External waste management at South Cambs Hall through daily emptying of all external waste and cigarette bins.
  • To be responsible for overseeing external contractors working in and around the South
Cambs Hall building.

  • Regular testing of the Facilities Management systems, such as, Fire/Bomb and Stay in
Place Alarm, Accessible Toilet Alarms and Security Systems.

  • Complete Electrical PAT Testing of equipment as and when required.
  • Undertake the role of a qualified First Aider (HSE First aid at Work)
  • Undertake the role as a member of the 'Designated Fire Team for Fire, Bomb and Stay in
Place alarm activations/evacuations.

  • Providing a portering service to all building users in South Cambs Hall (i.e., moving furniture, equipment, deliveries etc.) and delivering post to the Post Room daily.
  • Monitoring the Matrix Room Booking system and ensuring that all booked rooms are set up as requested and are in a clean and presentable condition in accordance with the
Facilities Management Meeting Room Standards document.

  • To attend the Great Shelford and Over Hubs to conduct compliance related checks (i.e.,
PAT Testing) and general repairs as and when required.

  • To complete all regular Health and Safety and Compliance related training and ensure all good working practices are followed and appropriate PPE is always worn.
  • To create and delete all building user access cards, allocating and signing out all contractor cards and ensuring that the correct processes and procedures are always followed.

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge and Understanding of Health & Safety at Work (i.e., The Health & Safety at
Work Act etc.)

  • Good administration skills
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Good written and oral communications skills

Hours:37 hours per week. Monday - Thursday 10:30 - 18:30 (Building Lock up), Friday

11:00 - 18:30. First week will be shadowing on-site caretaker.
