We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified Blood Transfusion Practitioner with relevant experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a role that is varied and requires a high degree of autonomy.

You will work closely with a variety of teams and disciplines to include key relationships with the Blood Transfusion laboratory, core trainers, senior nurses, doctors, anaesthetists and theatre staff.

Plus you will play an active and key role in the Trusts hospital transfusion committee and demonstrate leadership to carry out the objectives.

The role involves working with the regional transfusion committee and liaising with other Transfusion Practitioners across the region.

We are looking someone who is confident with incident investigations and has good inter personal skills especially for training a wide group of staff who require blood transfusion training.


You will be based at the Birmingham Children's hospital who provide a range of specialist services to include a busy emergency department, Cardiac, Liver, Bone Marrow Transplant and Haematology/Oncology malignancies.

The department is keen to support personal development.

To promote safe and appropriate transfusion practice throughout the Trust and ensure practice meets National guidelines.

To monitor and assess Trust transfusion practice against NHS Litigation Authority Standards and MHRA requirements.

To develop and deliver educational packages to all groups of staff involved in Blood transfusion.


The role of the Transfusion Practitioner will be key to the Trust risk management strategy and its commitment to Clinical Governance.

To play a key role in maintaining blood product traceability.
