Timbertree Academy has an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to join our team from September 2023.


We are looking for a full time Deputy Designated Safeguarding lead who will share responsibility for safeguarding and child protection across the school.

The DDSL will take part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and contribute to the assessment of children.

They will advise and support other members of staff on child protection and safeguarding matters and liaise with relevant agencies such as the local authority and police.


The DDSL will also have responsibility for school attendance, working closely with pupils and their families playing a valuable role in supporting pupils to maximise their attendance and therefore fulfil their personal, social and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • First point of contact for child protection concerns for the school, liaising with the school's designated safeguarding lead where necessary.
  • To work with external agencies, e.g. through referrals and liaising regularly with Social Services regarding child protection matters, organising and attending PEP, TAC and core groups meetings, attending relevant Child Protection meetings and feeding back regarding pupils educational needs.
  • Initial point of contact for children and parents, establishing and maintaining positive links between the school and parents/carers, supporting parents/carers in parenting or eliciting outside support for them to do so.
  • To put in place strategies and appropriate interventions to improve children's appearance, punctuality, attendance and adherence to school policies.
  • Analyse information and report to the school's governors and senior leaders

These duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of their job, skill or grade.
