The Overseas Visitors Team are on an exciting and constantly changing journey and can offer you a rewarding, flexible and varied our small team in the Finance Division.


We work hard to ensure that we identify and charge overseas visitors to the UK who are not entitled to receive free NHS hospital treatment.


  • We operate using guidance supplied by the Department of Health, Home Office, NHS as well as Trust Policies and Procedures in order to maximise the recovery of overseas income.
  • The Overseas Visitor Officer is responsible to the Overseas Visitors Manager and accountable to the Head of income and Contracting, will be responsible for the administration of accounting processes in relation to the charging and recovering of payments from overseas patients across the Trust.
  • Deputise for the Overseas Visitors Manager as required.
  • Assist the Overseas Visitors Manager in the identification, training, charging and recovering overseas visitor's income and act as a point of contact for overseas visitors and their families, representatives, interpreters, clinicians, nursing and ward staff in the administration of overseas patient charges.

  • Supervising and providing guidance on the completion of the Message Exchange for Social care and Health (MESH) submissions made by the team. Engaging with the Information Department prior to an automated MESH solution being implemented. Once this is implemented, ensure that the system is operating correctly and identifying all potential overseas patients.
  • Provide guidance for ensuring that PAS is kept updated with Overseas patients' status from MESH.
  • Submit SVECREQUEST's to Home Office.
  • Ensure PAS is updated from returned SVECREQUEST's.
  • Reconcile the amounts invoiced to Overseas patients to the debtors' ledger of the Trust's Business World accounting system, taking into account any values transferred to debtrecovery agencies.
  • Attend / organise staff training sessions regarding overseas visitors at various locations.
  • To attend meetings with other NHS departments, organisations and nonNHS organisations as required.
  • Work with key stakeholders to support the delivery of work streams and projects that form part of the teams' agenda
  • Develop effective, positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Management of a range of complex and competing priorities requiring effective prioritisation
  • Ensure the teams' time is used effectively and is focussed on the Trusts strategic priorities
  • To record accurate and confidential information, as required, and to update computerised records as appropriate. To maintain confidentiality of client information at all times
  • To work within clearly defined procedures and within the limits of your competency
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality at all times
