Main Responsibilities will cover the following:
1 Medical Device Management - Technical Responsibilities
- To assist in the management of medical, scientific and laboratory equipment within Adult Critical Care Units (and Cardiac Recovery Unit as applicable).
- Maintenance of the equipment will be expected to a high standard, ensuring that it is decontaminated and sent for service and repair in an appropriate time frame.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and location of equipment.
- To provide daily maintenance and cleaning of all point of care testing (POCT) equipment i.e. blood gas analysers, osmometer, ACT analysers and glucometers.
- To calibrate equipment as per company policy, and perform daily quality control and performance checks.
- To identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems encountered with equipment and escalate appropriately as necessary.
- To participate in the external Biochemistry quality control scheme.
- To assist in preparing monitoring equipment for use on a daily basis, checking the patient bedside monitor is functioning correctly, and that all cables and leads such as ECG, pressure, SPO2, NIBP are in place. To keep in stock spare parts for monitoring e.g. NIBP cuffs, transducers, SPO2 probes, temperature cables etc.
- To ensure the Critical Care areas have adequate numbers of infusion devices i.e. syringe pumps, volumetric and feed pumps. Regularly check these devices are serviced on time, and labelled accordingly.
- To assist in operating physiological measurement equipment e.g. patient monitors, cardiac output monitors.
- To assist with decontamination of patient ventilators, reassembling ventilator parts, and performing calibrations and full functional tests.
- To assist with the cleaning and decontamination of the intubating fiberscopes as per company and Trust policies.
- To keep professionally updated with regard to new equipment and techniques and to evaluate their effectiveness and appropriateness for critical care patients.
- To assist the Lead Technologists with the ordering and checking of all nonstock deliveries, ensuring there are adequate stock levels of all specialised consumables (high cost items).
- To liaise with the Sterile Services department with regard to any problems encountered with deliveries and stock levels i.e. sterile instruments, etc.
