Contract term:
Fixed term, 1 May - 6 Sept 2023.

This is a fixed term contract until September 2023 beginning on a part-time basis and working to full time across 48hours/ week during July & August.

Evening and weekend work as required, you may be required to work on bank or public holidays.

Role Description

Assembly Festival is one of the largest and longest running multi venues on the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2023, we will be presenting around 200 shows across 6 sites, across all performance genres.

Assembly Festival's summer season begins on 14 July when it welcomes Edinburgh Jazz and Blues to Assembly George Square Gardens and Assembly Roxy; before the Edinburgh Food Festival returns July.

Our festival programme will kick off on Wednesday 2 August with the Assembly Gala showcase.


The Press Officer will work with the Press Manager and wider Communications team to generate press coverage promoting all the shows performing at Assembly as part of the Festival Fringe 2023, as well as some specific show campaigns.


Role and Responsibilities:


Work with press and media towards presenting to a high standard that will promote Assembly's artistic vision and shows appropriately.

Work with the Marketing Team to provide content for social media sites.


Work with the Marketing, Programming and Box Office Teams to monitor and track ticket sales, generate joint promotions, and press opportunities.

Work with the Campaigns Lead to create succinct, multi-channel campaigns for the Assembly campaign shows.


Work with the Press Manager, Sponsorship and Programming Team on the Assembly Gala Launch and coordinate the press guest list to maximise Assembly's press coverage from the start of the festival.


Assist the Head of Marketing and Press Manager with the day-to-day running of Assembly's Communications Office, supporting visiting companies, and specific show campaigns where applicable.

Assisting the Press Cuttings Team with the filing and reporting of press clippings.

Attending staff meetings, award ceremonies and other events where applicable.

Other duties, within reason, as required.


Person Specification:
Previous festival or events experience is preferable, especially within a press office or PR role.

Understanding of arts media and publicity, and the motivations behind a ticket buyer.

Previous experience managing press campaigns for live performances, pitching to journalists and securing reviews.


Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to deal effectively with people at all levels, both within and externally to the organisation.

Proactive approach to generating ideas and thinking on your feet as well as creatively.

Management experience with excellent attention to detail and a proven track record in delivering to the highest standard.

Experience of working in a fast-paced, busy environment and able to work well under pressure.

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and to manage and meet deadlines.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to work unsocial hours.

A high level of computer literacy, including but not limited to Microsoft Office programs.


Salary:
£580/week (pro-rata)


Working Hours:
Mon - Fri (Moving to 6 days in 7 mid-July & August)

Location:

Edinburgh City Centre - a degree of hybrid working is available but must be available in Edinburgh June - August.
