Hours and working patterns available:


Morning - 15 hours per week to be worked. Current working hours for this post are Monday to Friday 5.30am to 8.30am.


Evening - 15 hours per week to be worked. Current working hours for this post are Monday to Friday 5pm to 8pm.


Weekend - 15 hours per week to be worked. Current working hours for this post are Saturday and Sunday 5.30am to 1.45pm.


Weekday - 30 hours per week to be worked. Current working hours for this post are Monday to Friday 10.30am to 17.00pm


Purpose of job:
The post holder will be responsible for cleaning various areas within the University academic, residential and associated buildings.

They will also provide assistance to other groups within the Soft FM Services team particularly during the preparation and deliver of University events.


Duties of the Post:


The main duties of the post will include:

  • The duties of the post, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods, waking distances, pushing and pulling and climbing stairs
  • The cleaning and preparation of various areas in the academic and associated buildings such as seminar rooms, offices, male and female toilets, corridors, lifts, laboratories, meeting rooms and gymnasiums.
  • To carry out various types of cleaning tasks so that cleaning specification standards are achieved.
  • Replenishment of consumables such as soap, hand sanitizer and toilet rolls.
  • Cleaning of external areas.
  • Refuse and recycling collection.
  • Fault reporting.
  • The operation of mechanical cleaning equipment (following suitable training).
  • To provide cleaning cover across all University buildings including the residential buildings as and when required by management.
  • Responding to emergency cleaning requests including the clear up of floods, offensive waste and sharps.
  • Participation in all training that is deemed to be necessary by Soft FM Services.
  • To provide support when necessary to all other Soft FM Services groups.
  • Follow health and Safety guidelines at all times, particularly: C.O.S.H.H (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) / P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment) / Working at Heights / Kinetic Manual Handling
  • Ensuring that all cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely at all times and that only approved cleaning materials as detailed in the C.O.S.H.H register are used.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Soft FM Services or their nominee.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications/Training
GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language - DESIRABLE

NVQ Level 2 in Customer Care or equivalent - DESIRABLE


Experience/Knowledge
Awareness and knowledge of Health and Safety legislation relating to cleaning materials and working practices - DESIRABLE

Previous cleaning experience - DESIRABLE

Respect for diverse communities and to promote equality of opportunity - ESSENTIAL


Skills/Abilities
Understanding of any Health and Safety information/guidance in order to carry out the safe use of chemicals and equipment - DESIRABLE

Ability to work both individually and as part of a team - ESSENTIAL

Good communication skills, both written and verbal - ESSENTIAL

Ability to adapt well to changes in the work schedule and prioritise workloads - ESSENTIAL

Ability to undertake domestic cleaning to a high standard - ESSENTIAL
