AALTO's Zephyr is a High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) and is the only one of its kind to have demonstrated day/night longevity in the stratosphere.

Providing a persistent and adaptable solution, unlike other unmanned aircraft.

Its persistence enables a capability of flying continuously for months at a time, at around 70,000 feet, above weather and conventional air traffic.


The newly established entity will become the leading Global HAPS Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) provider for the Mobile and Satellite Network Operator market - connecting the diverse needs of our customers - whether for rural, overlay capacity, disaster recovery or new services provision.

In addition, it shall offer Platform as a Service (PaaS) to the Institutional and Military markets for Earth observation, tracking and communications requirements, as well as operating a global fleet of carbon neutral HAPS platforms - powered by sunlight.


Job Purpose:

Responsibilities:

Act as Experimental Test Pilot for novel Specific Category and Certified Uncrewed Air Systems in the UK and overseas

Work collaboratively with the Air Operations and Engineering teams to successfully plan and conduct complex sub-scale, surrogate and full
- scale UAS trials activities

Work with engineers and technicians to integrate new systems for test

Assist with the management and development of organisational governance and novel Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs)

Share and develop best practice to enhance the Flight Test & Evaluation of the Zephyr air system


Essential Experience and Qualifications:
Graduate of recognised Test Pilot School (EASA Category 2 Test Pilot or

greater)

Experience with complex UAS trials or operations

Ability to make and implement complex technical risk-based decisions under pressure in a small-team environment


Desirable Experience and Qualifications:
Knowledge of UK and European UAS regulatory environments, particularly Specific Category operations

Knowledge and understanding of operations under UK MAA Regulatory Publications, CAA Part 21 and US FAA Part 91

Holder of current UK CAA CPL or FAA Commercial Certificate

Holder of UK General VLOS Certificate (GVC) or other experience as UAS operator or external pilot

Experience with COTS or bespoke instrumentation and data acquisition systems

Capable of explaining technical details to customers in a concise and expert manner
