  • Flooding represents a crucial challenge both now and into the future as the impacts of climate change become apparent. In Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) you will be helping to protect people and property from flooding.

As Flood Resilience Advisor you'll be a passionate and dynamic individual, who will be responsible for overseeing the Flood Warning Service within East Anglia.

We are working on strengthening the flood warning service within East Anglia by looking strategically and working across FCRM at how we provide the service in the future.


You will also:

  • Lead, plan and coordinate the technical improvements of the flood warning service for the Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.
  • Support the Team Leader in setting and embedding the longterm strategic direction for Flood Resilience.
  • Embed new ways of working and improvements developed by our national office.
  • Work in partnerships with internal teams and ensure Flood Resilience is integrated into FCRM projects.
  • Work with professional partners to ensure we continue to take a Multiagency approach to managing flood risk by providing training and awareness, ensuring they are prepared and can respond to flooding, through supporting them with Multi Agency Flood Plans.
  • Support the team by provide technical leadership, coaching, mentoring and training team members and duty officers.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

You'll be based at the EA office, Iceni House in Ipswich. However, we are adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home.

  • The team
  • The Flood Resilience team ensures the Area is prepared for, responds to, and recovers from flood events.
We deliver the flood warning service, train, and exercise internal staff, and develop effective flood response procedures.

We support local communities and businesses to prepare for flooding and liaise with professional partners within the Local Resilience Forum community.

Experience/skills required- Ideally, applicants should have some experience in flood risk management.
It would be helpful, but not essential, if you have the following skills/experience:

  • Be an effective communicator with evidence of the ability to convey complex information to a range of audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate exceptional organisational skills to successfully prioritise, plan, monitor and track technical tasks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Willing to undertake specialist/or further training when necessary.
  • Demonstrate clear leadership and work well under pressure and in a team environment,
  • Have a positive approach to change.
  • Proficient mapping skills, experienced in using ArcGIS
Driving Licence not required but attendance to Ipswich Office will be required.
