About the role:


This is a brand-new role and a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head of Digital, with knowledge of digital analytics and website management, to join an award-winning Marketing and Communications department.

As our Head of Digital and Web you will draw on your skills and expertise to drive forward digital marketing at the University to support student recruitment and help to raise the University's wider profile and reputation.


Key to this role is analysing, implementing and developing digital strategies to support the University's strategic ambitions, with a primary focus on student recruitment, as well as improving performance across all digital touch points including Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Pay-Per Click (PPC), website user experience (UX), and the customer journey.


You will be responsible for ensuring that our website is sector leading, engaging and responsive, considering the user journey across our broad target audience, including students and their parents, our alumni community, businesses and stakeholders.


Principal accountabilities:


  • Lead a team of web developers and web content officers to continually evolve and enhance the University of Derby website, using data and insights to inform developments and ensure a seamless customer journey.
  • Manage the performance of Google, Bing and Meta accounts, working closely with the Associate Director
  • Communications and making strategic recommendations to ensure ongoing performance and delivery against recruitment key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Work closely with the Head of Content to produce diverse content types for use across social, web and content marketing channels.
  • Proactively monitor and analyse digital trends to ensure the University is sector leading and at the forefront of digital marketing.
  • Provide strategic consultation to colleagues across the University on matters relating to the website or digital marketing, using influence to ensure recommendations are adopted which will lead to increase in KPIs and targets.
  • Effectively manage budgets and forecasting linked to areas of responsibility.
  • Manage relationships with third party suppliers to ensure these are strategic partnerships, delivering best value and ensuring a sound return on investment is delivered.
  • Work closely with the senior leadership team (SLT) to set KPIs and measure and analyse the performance of the website and digital marketing campaigns, adapting quickly to insights as required.
  • Establish yourself as an expert in your field, demonstrating a firm grasp on industry trends and horizon scanning to adopt new digital marketing techniques.
  • Analysing data and insights to produce regular reports detailing performance and delivery against targets and highlighting to senior leadership across the institution, recommendations linked to driving opportunities for improvement.
  • Create a strategy for A/B testing and continuous monitoring which will drive improved ad and web performance.

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience)

Experience:


  • Senior leadership experience in the area of digital and web
  • Track record of success in creation and delivery of effective digital strategies across multiple channels
  • Experience of leading continuous innovation.
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Demonstrable track record of success in creating and delivering compelling digital strategies aligned to KPIs
  • Demonstrable experience of acting in an advisory capacity and influencing senior colleagues
  • Experience of operating effectively at Senior Management level, with the ability to lead a high performing team
  • Experience of developing and delivering strategies in line with broader organisation objectives
  • Demonstrable experience of working with senior stakeholders, internal and external
  • Experience of leading continuous innovation
  • Experience of managing budgets

Skills, knowledge & abilities:


  • Strong knowledge of SEO and user journeys
  • Excellent understanding of paid searches, display advertisings and social media
  • Thorough understanding of Digital and the web
  • A high level of PC literacy
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills written and verbal with ability to engage with and influence senior colleagues, and excellent attention to detail
