About the role:


The Strategic People Partner plays a critical role in collaborating with ExCom and Senior Leaders to translate the strategic vision of the business into a People Strategy which drives tangible business outcomes.

You'll be a trusted advisor who provides expert consultancy and deep specialist knowledge. You'll be responsible for the creation and implementation of their strategic people plans at a functional level. Delivering people initiatives which foster a culture of growth, drive employee engagement, and grow our business.


As a Strategic People Partner, you'll partner with the business to drive the people agenda - talent, capability, leadership, structure.

Using your expertise to coach and challenge leaders in their thinking and way of working, growing them along the way.

You'll sit alongside a People Projects and Transformation team and Operational Business Partners within an overall Centre of Excellence model so there is plenty of expertise and resource on hand to deliver through.

You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home at your local office or traveling within the UK.


What you'll be doing:


  • Work with ExCom and Senior leaders to understand business goals and translate them into People Strategies.
  • Understand and influence the business strategy and identify opportunities to increase alignment with the strategy, by helping business leaders identify, prioritise and build organisational knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • Act as the UK Lead for broad People topics across AXA UK. Ensure progress is tracked and reported, and stakeholders are kept engaged and up to date at a UK transversal level. Build close and effective relationships with the COE's to secure their expertise to deliver on the People Strategy.
  • Design and deliver organisation development interventions to increase organisational efficiency and embed the desired culture and behaviour changes.
  • Lead organisation design projects to develop operating models that deliver desired business outcomes within your function.
  • Diagnose gaps between current and desired organisation performance and deploy actions to resolve gaps, including organisation redesign, process change, coaching and training.
  • Work with the COE's to deploy appropriate talent solutions to fill identified skill gaps.
  • Be responsible for your business units having the right talent to build sustainable benefit by leading the talent management and development plans for the business unit. This will be focused on building the capability of leaders, building skills and capabilities of the workforce, and ensuring succession plans are in place.
  • Identify culture gaps that are a risk to delivery of the business strategy, and ensure a plan is in place to address the gaps. Lead on any Culture change required to address the culture gaps identified.
  • Sit within the senior People leadership team for the AXA Insurance businesses, growing and influencing other People Team colleagues and acting as a role model.

  • Ability to challenge key stakeholders and operate within a matrix environment using strong coaching and challenge skills to extract the best outcomes for the business and people within it.
  • Operate at a strategic level with the ability to navigate complexity. Possesses strong strategic vision with the ability to drive strategic alignment.
  • Understanding of the people context; within the business, within the wider group (including the people strategy) and externally. You'll be able to understand the people levers available through experience and understanding of HR, connection to the rest of the People Team and have the skills to deploy these skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a complex and ambiguous environment.
  • A role model for Know You Can (positive and 'can do') behaviours.
  • A track record of working beyond your own business area to engage others, share best practice and deliver through others.
  • Working collaboratively with employee representative groups (including unions) influencing as appropriate.


As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorized to work in the United Kingdom.
