My job makes better lives byproviding psychological services to parents within Family Safeguarding.

To provide clinical support to the Family Safeguarding Team, who provide a high quality, specialist applied psychology service to clients, their families or carers, where there are highly complex presentations.

The post will be based within the Family Safeguarding Service of Surrey County Council (permanently seconded from SABP).

You will be managed and supervised by a Clinical Psychologist within the Safeguarding service and work alongside a team of social workers and other professionals with parents where there is high risk of severe parenting problems including maltreatment and neglect.


Our ground-breaking family safeguarding model will bring together all the professionals we need, under one roof, to provide intensive support to parents to address the mental health, substance misuse and domestic abuse that place children at risk of significant harm.

An important focus of our model is to invest in training all team members to a high standard in motivational interviewing, to engage parents in contributing to their own assessments of risk and change, and to make group interventions and strengthening relationships support part of our everyday work.

Our team works in a trauma informed way, and offers trauma-focused and trauma-informed interventions to parents.

  • To actively work with people who use services, carers, families and staff in implementing the care plan devised by the psychologist.
  • To act as an advocate and ensure that there is proper regard for peoples' dignity, choice, selfesteem, racial, cultural, sexual and religious needs and preferences.
  • To take appropriate and immediate action to keep people safe in a crisis or safeguarding situation, reporting back to a senior colleague in a timely manner.
  • To observe and document any changes in wellbeing of the people that they are supporting, reporting to the professional or team manager any new or change in risk or presentation of the person, and updating risk assessments as required.
  • To work in partnership with people in other health and social care settings.
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, other agencies, people who use services and their families.
  • To maintain high standards of care in all areas of work in accordance with the Trust Policies and Procedures. To act within Mental Capacity Act
  • To be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.
  • To contribute to conducting clinical audit and research, maintaining current knowledge of research findings and development within the relevant field.
  • To participate in quality assurance activities as required.
