We offer a tailored, fast and frequent logistics service with countrywide coverage.

Our Hilsea site are now recruiting for a Transport Operator on a full time basis.

Working hours:
Monday to Friday, 18:30 to 03:30


Job Description:


The purpose of a Transport Operator is to effectively manage vehicle utilization and ensure drivers are given clear and precise instructions.

Ensuring that all service levels are met cost effectively and within the constraints of driver's hours and H & S regulations.


Key Duties of a Transport Operator:

  • To plan the effective utilisation of drivers, vehicles, sub-contractors and agencies ensuring that all Company sites are fully considered when doing so.
  • Ensure that all drivers are working within a safe environment and follow driver hours regulations.
  • Liaising with Night Transport Supervisor to optimise fleet/driver utilisation, identifying and resolving problems affecting delivery on time.
  • To assist in the control of equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met and recorded.
  • Conducting investigations into accidents or issues of driver performance.
  • Working with Compliance to ensure trucks are legal and information is downloaded in a timely manner.
  • Working alongside the Night Transport Supervisor to ensure that costs are managed in accordance with the KPI's.
  • Supporting Drivers with callouts and breakdowns.
  • Completing Accident, Incident and Near Miss Paperwork.
  • Tracking of Drivers using ISOTRAK / Microlise systems. Telephoning Drivers and subcontractors.
  • Compiling and sending nightly DOT reports and KPI's to internal and external customers.

Qualifications:


  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Experience of working within a distribution / transport environment.
  • Sound geographical knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of driver's hours regulations/Tachograph law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to solve problems under pressure.
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach to work.
