Housing Officer / Homefinder - Allocations and Lettings

St Helens

£29,579 per annum

Full Time - 37 hours per week

Fixed Term - 12 months contract
This role is internally known as Homefinder Officer.

As a key member of the Allocations and Lettings team the Homefinder Officer will be responsible for delivering the landlord functions for the allocation of tenancies and the new tenancy process.

This involvescontacting applicants, tenants, contractors, and Torus staff to ensure smooth and efficient processes and service.


The role will focus on liaison with customers through a variety of means including face to face, telephone and digital ensure that properties are allocated in a professional manner and in compliance with the Torus Allocations policy.

The role is key to deliveringan effective service for both our current tenants and future tenants.


We are currently looking for someone who has the drive and ability to be an effective member of our Homefinder team.

This post is fundamental in ensuring that we let our homes efficiently and effectively to maximise income for Torus and achieve sustainabletenancies.


This is an important role in which you will:

  • Be responsible for managing a designated portfolio of empty and/or new build properties, ensuring that they are let in a timely and efficient manner by working collaboratively with other teams to achieve this.
  • Conduct pretenancy checks such as affordability & risk assessments. To ensure applicants are aware of the requirements for payments in advance and rent advice is provided including identifying UC claimants.
  • Understand the Company's policies on empty properties, incentives, allocations and sundry debts.
  • Maximise income by reducing void periods via effective and efficient service delivery.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have the ability to negotiate with applicants to achieve a successful let and meet business targets.
  • Be able to manage professional relationships with external agencies to support applicants to move in with appropriate support, in a timely manner.
  • Be able to use business data to improve, monitor, report performance and find solutions.
  • Have knowledge of housing stock and neighbourhoods to provide accurate advice to applicants.
