Learning Support Mentor

Key Objectives:
- To support the Teaching Team
- Facilitate educational / mentoring element of DRGN Provision
- To provide practical mentoring support to a caseload of up to 5 students
- To support students to reengage in learning and education
Main Duties
- Engage with each student and complete appropriate assessments
- Establish, maintain and further develop effective relationships which engage each student so that assistance and support can be offered within a constructive relationship
- To work with student in the development of their Student Action Plan and to assist individuals to achieve the agreed goals set out therein
- To plan and lead sessions on a 1:1/group basis with clear and suitable objectives that support reaching the agreed goal
- Support students with strategies and assist them in improving their own learning and social skills
- To record observations accurately and use this information to inform debriefs, team meetings, reports, formal assessments and other appropriate recording systems
- To ensure relevant resources, equipment and materials are prepared and available for each session
- Supervise students during organised outings, group work and individual sessions as necessary
- Ensure paper based and computerised information systems are maintained in order that information is up to date and relevant
- To invigilate exams and act as a reader/scribe for students as required
- Prepare students for their contacts with specialist support agencies and opportunity providers.
- Provide consistent and sustained support to the point of transition and continued potential as required
Advocacy and liaison
- Build and maintain effective links with parents/carers and relevant partner organisations in all types of communication
- To serve as the student Mentor and Advocate to ensure they get the help they want and need.
- Ensure the exchange of relevant information between DRGN and other partners and agencies takes place under the terms of service level agreements where appropriate, and within the requirements of agreed information sharing protocols
- Support the Centre Manager in the arrangement of specialist support and assessment where needed by students
- Identify and liaise with key agencies and individuals providing specialist support services including, for examples:
- Information, Advice and Guidance
- Education, training and employment
- Health advice and support
- Relationship, family and counseling
Administration
- Set up and maintain files for each participant and record relevant information in order to track progress and meet the monitoring requirements as defined by line managers and partner organisations
- Record, maintain and ensure student profiles are accurate and up to date
- Produce reports and case studies when required
- Complete Risk Assessments when appropriate
- Complete ALL debrief reports/documentation accurately on a daily basis
- Support Centre Manager in all timetable related activities
- Identify and source appropriate work experience placements for students
General
- Carry out all duties within the spirit and requirements of the DRGN Equal Opportunities policy and procedures, actively promoting positive action and seeking to challenge and overcome disadvantage and discrimination
- Attend and participate in team meetings as appropriate
- Act at all times within DRGN's Guidelines and
ALL Policies and Procedures - Promote DRGN's good name
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients and other professionals
- Carry out such other duties as may be agreed with line manager from time to time
- Pursue the development of skills and knowledge necessary for the effective performance of the role in liaison with your line manager
Special Notes and Conditions

- In line with all other posts at DRGN, the performance and development needs of the post holder will be reviewed against criteria agreed with the post holder by his/her line manager and set out in supervision
- The post holder must be able to travel to and from work from locations outside the normal work base as may be required

£19,465.00-£22,992.00 per year
