Description

We're looking for a Policy Officer to join our Economic Policy and Partnerships team, here at West Midlands Combined Authority.

In this role, you'll be key in helping to facilitate the planning and execution of major partnerships with regional business groups, senior local authority officers, government officials and others.


As part of this role, you will proactively manage the forward plans for key advisory groups and Boards, ensuring decisions and issues benefit from input.

You will have an awareness of the intricacies of combined and local authorities work particularly in economic matters.

Please note this role is being offered as a fixed term contract until 31st
March 2025

What you will be doing

  • Maintain the overarching forward view of economy groups and Boards including West Midlands Business Insights Forum, Directors of Economic Development, Economic Growth Board, West Midlands Innovation Board, etc.
  • Work alongside WMCA's governance services team to draft agendas and liaise with contributors to ensure that major followup actions are delegated and delivered.
  • Manage the process of commissioning and approving papers and content for meetings, showing awareness about what's appropriate for different kinds of meetings and groups.
  • Draft reports and research economic questions as part of the WMCA's overall economic leadership role.

About you

  • Able to demonstrate knowledge role of local government and combined authorities in enabling economic growth.
  • Experience of supporting policy development and/or public decisionmaking, ideally on issues related to economic development.
  • Able to assimilate large quantities of information and processes.
  • Skilled in managing competing priorities and working to tight deadlines, under pressure and with excellent attention to detail.
