The role


This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking for a role which is both fulfilling and rewarding, working with people seeking asylum in the UK.

You will work as part of a small team providing housing management services and support to Home4U's residents.

You will be experienced in working with people, identifying their strengths, and using these to help empower individuals to find solutions to any issues they face.

You will enjoy building new partnership working opportunities that will benefit the residents of Home4U whilst maintaining effective working relationships with our current partners.


To succeed in this role, you will have a genuine passion and interest in what we do as a charity and will be skilled at engaging with people and creative in seeking solutions.

As our Engagement & Support Coordinator, you will be at the forefront of the charity and will provide an invaluable service to our residents, many of whom have experienced homelessness and destitution and rely on Home4U and other agencies to meet their needs.

You will need to be available to travel throughout Cardiff so a full valid driving licence and use of a car would be an advantage.

Home4U Aims & Objectives


Home4U's aim is to provide temporary housing and support to people who have sought asylum in the UK but are left homeless and destitute.

Home4U aims to support people to access legal advocacy to progress their claim for asylum as this is the only opportunity people have to move on from Home4U's accommodation in a positive manner.

Home4U seeks to promote a fairer and more compassionate asylum system and will campaign to support this goal.


Job Purpose

  • To be responsible for ensuring that Homes4U's residents receive regular and targeted support to help address any issues they experience.
  • To be responsible for the Housing Management functions for all Home4U properties including arranging repairs and compliance work and carry out visits to identify repairs and inspect completed work.
  • To develop and lead a group of volunteers who will support the work of Home4U.
  • Develop Home4U's Involvement and Engagement Strategy prioritising effective communications and ensuring beneficiaries of the service have a voice.
  • Develop a range of partnerships with external organisations that can support Home4U's work and offer opportunities to beneficiaries.

Job Responsibilities - Residents

  • Oversee the referrals process, liaising with referring agents, arranging and completing needs assessments, updating monitoring and evaluation databases.
  • Managing waiting list by regular liaison with those on it to ensure Home4U are aware of any changes in circumstances and recording changes on the database
  • Oversee the Allocation Process following Home4U's policy and procedures in relation to allocations and evaluating those on the list when spaces become available in Home4U's accommodation.
  • Complete Risk Assessments and reviews for individual residents
  • Complete an Action Plan based on the needs assessment and baseline review to ensure each residents needs are met in a planned and timely manner.
  • Issue new residents with "Yordex" Cards and show residents how Yordex cards work. Top up Yordex cards every 2 weeks and update monitoring sheet.
  • Provide information and advice around budgeting, food banks and food coops and other organisations that can offer support to residents
  • Carry out regular visits to the residents, offering support, signposting to other organisations, reviewing plans, and recording outcomes.
  • Record all activity undertaken with or on behalf of the resident
  • Carry out regular monitoring and evaluation
  • Support residents to attend appointments, including solicitors, health, etc
  • Encourage and support residents to attend meetings to access peer support and engage with volunteers and Home4U team.
  • Support residents with the move on process, including moves to Sect 4 and alternatives to Home4U if unable to progress claim for asylum.
  • Be jointly responsible for Safeguarding, reporting all concerns identified to the Safeguarding Officer or Trustee with Safeguarding responsibility in the absence of the Safeguarding Officer.

Job Responsibilities - Housing

  • Complete the Move In process with new residents, completing the correct occupancy agreement, explaining rights and responsibilities, keeping accurate records.
  • Report any maintenance issues, record and follow up to ensure repairs are completed satisfactorily
  • Demonstrate how appliances work and ensure that residents are aware of energy saving measures such as turning off lights when not in use.
