Description

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on.

It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.

The Intelligent Mobility and Smart Technology (IMST) practice, within the UK Transportation business, is the home of our market leading transport technology and smart mobility capability.

We work across the transport sector helping our clients navigate through a rapidly changing world, linking current Intelligent Transport Systems with future-focused technology opportunities.

The practice provides consultancy advisory, research, technical and design services to a broad set of UK and international clients in the transport sector, including the Department for Transport, National Highways, Network Rail and UK local authorities.

The Role:

We are seeking a Principal or Senior Consultant with a background in the specification, design and operation of road works and temporary traffic management in accordance with the Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8 and associated guidance.

We are looking for someone who is keen to lead safety and operational assurance projects and bids in this area, provide technical guidance and identify opportunities for improving highway safety in roadworks.

You will be working closely with clients to influence the design of traffic management and supporting opportunities to innovate such as with higher speed limits or enhanced messaging to drivers.

In this role, you would have the opportunity to positively influence the potential outcomes and impacts of road collisions and work towards reducing the likelihood and severity of them on our network.

Transportation is a quickly evolving market with an increasing focus on both users and operators, giving you the opportunity to shape the travel experience and safety record of the future.

Requirements:

You will have experience of undertaking risk assessment, or developing safety cases, in your field as well as meeting several of the following requirements:

  • Ability to produce clear written reports that give confidence that proposals are safe or need to be modified to assure safety.
  • Ability to engage confidently with clients and/or stakeholders on safety matters.
  • Ability to guide a group into reaching a consensus on a contentious issue.
  • The selfbelief to advocate a position that doesn't always align with traditional approaches to safety, standards and operation.
  • Demonstrate collaborative behaviours.
  • Draw on expertise from across the business and industry to help resolve safety challenges.
  • Ability to present to senior stakeholders on the results of safety analysis.
  • Proactive in collating evidence and expert insight to help develop riskbased arguments.
  • Demonstrate leadership in your role.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver project outcomes.

Desirable experience:

As well as the requirements, experience in some of the following would also be beneficial:

  • Departures from standard processes.
  • Interpretation of operational safety data.
  • Chairing or presenting to client safety and operational groups.
  • Safety Risk Management and Safety Governance processes. E.g. Network Rail CSM, National Highways PCF.
  • Development of Safety related PCF or GRIP related products.
  • Critically and constructively reviewing outputs to ensure robust and clear arguments are made.
