Job summary:

The Marketing & Communications Division is a key part of the UK Export Finance and the Business Group Directorate.

As a member of the OCCMC Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Head of Marketing & Communications plays a vital role in delivering UKEF's mandate.


The Business Group has a burgeoning responsibility and remit in ensuring that UKEF increases its overseas footprint as well as promoting UKEF services globally and delivering more quality opportunities both internationally and domestically in to the UKEF pipeline.


Job description:


The Head of Marketing & Communications plays a key role, alongside the Director of the group, ensuring the directorate fulfils the potential and therefore ensuring the UKEF's growth aspirations are realised.


The Head of Marketing & Communications leads the Marketing and Communications (M&C) division that plays a key strategic role within the Department by ensuring that UKEF's M&C activity directly contribute to the success of UKEF by delivering against the Departments core objectives, primarily driving awareness but also delivering Marketing activity that contribute towards increased customers and focusing on key sectors.


The Head of Marketing & communications also ensure that the work the division delivers on Corporate Comms and Internal Comms, through reputation management, stakeholders & staff engagement also plays a key role in ensuring the Confidence of Ministers as well as being a Customer-centric organisation and a "Great place to work".

The Head of Marketing & Communications role is UKEF's "Head of Profession" for the Government Communication Service (GCS).

The post holder has overarching responsibility and accountability for all the Department's marketing and communications activities, this is done through:

- planning, delivering and evaluating strategic marketing campaigns and initiatives across the UK and internationally, raising awareness of UKEF and generating new business leads through advertising, events (including UKEF supplier fairs), direct marketing, digital, PR and media partnerships; and
- managing all the Department's communications, providing a positive, engaging and consistent narrative on UKEF, combating negative sentiment, generating strong, engaging content on all digital platforms (web/social) and printed collateral, as well as ensuring that the Department and the work that UKEF does is positively perceived by the public, press, staff internally and key stakeholders in both the private sector and across government.


Person specification:


The Head of Marketing & Communications needs to have senior leadership Marketing and Communications experience in a commercial B2B financial environment.


You'll have far ranging responsibilities and deliverables including:

  • You will be a highly collaborative leader and you should have strong experience of working with multiple stakeholders, at a senior level in a complex environment. As Head of Division and a member of UKEF's overarching Senior Leadership Team you'll have a key role in the organisation to help further the Department in achieving its objectives and you'll be working with colleagues within UKEF, the Department for International Trade, the GREAT campaign, across Government and across industry to ensure UKEF's activity supports a whole of government approach to trade and exporting.
  • As the Head of Marketing & Communications you'll need to be able to gain the trust of a range of stakeholders and be able to influence, negotiate, persuade and coordinate support for proposed Marketing & Communications strategies and activities. Key stakeholders include UKEF Board, CEO and Exec Committee, SPADS and Ministers/SoS as well as working collaboratively with stakeholders across HMG.
  • You'll have overarching responsibility for the strategic and effective planning and implementation of resources that comprises of 16 marketing and communications professionals covering various specialist teams as well as a £2m+ budget. You'll lead the Division, ensuring that the work that they deliver is creative, effective and best in class.
  • You should have experience of effectively managing marketing and creative agencies, to secure the most efficient use of public money
  • You will have experience of a financial commercial environment and have senior level understanding of B2B marketing and be able to deliver high profil
