The Opportunity


Coordination of MBDA's R&T into external research frameworks, principally the Weapon Sector Research Framework (WSRF) and the Complex Weapons Integrated Technology Partnership (CWITP).

The role sits within the _

System Design:
Emerging Portfolio & Capability_ function and Future Products Department.

It is uniquely placed to both gather research needs from MBDA's Future Products and to pass on the technology advancements back into those Future Products.

The goal is to enable new products to draw on promising lower TRL technologies and ensuring that there is a real exploitation path for the funded activities.


The Role would have a functional responsibility for the development and guidance of a small technology focused team, noting they are all expected to have a strong level of autonomy.

Interaction and influencing of the R&T landscape within MBDA, working with Portfolio, Programmes 'Futures' teams, Future Systems and commercial

The role will Interfacing with internal and external stakeholders.

The interface with QinetiQ and the Dstl Customer is crucial as they have a common team across the ITP and WSRF, so this joint role is an important MBDA player in a diverse technical team across UK/FR MOD and Industry.

Liaison with the MBDA Function and department heads in order to help coordinate IRAD and technology investment.

The RRL is the MBDA focal point for the following activities; this will be achieved either via the role or a suitable expert from the internal MBDA network, collectively delivering the pre-requisites of the role:

  • Review technical input into the WSRF, ITP and exploitation path documentation including support to assessment panels and lead selection meetings.
  • Provide industrial insight and focus at WSRF planning team meetings including Order of Buy (OoB) prioritisation and the broader annual Planning Programme.
  • Provide MBDA representation during planning and OoB generation processes, in particular the MBDA exploitation priorities with a view to informing and influencing the overall prioritisation.
  • Identify, collate and prioritise research needs for informing Expert Panel (EP) and WSRF community.
  • Coordinate across Functions, Future Portfolio, Future Systems, Business Development etc to generate a consolidated view of MBDA capability and technology needs.
  • Develop and implement internal exploitation plans for WSRF tasks.
  • Support technology roadmapping activities.
  • Attend WSRF meetings as required in support of OoB and transition to tasking.
  • Review and provide exploitation focus for each SoR.
  • Provide internal bid support as required and where appropriate.
  • Attend (either in person or via delegation through nominated representative) WSRF Delivery meetings for relevant tasks:
  • kick off meetings.
- technical reviews.
- progress review.

  • Attend WSRF conference and support the MBDA presence, including mustering and coordination of appropriate stand material.
  • Ensure MBDA presentational material is to an appropriate standard using applicable company processes.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process, engagement and exploitation process improvements, both within MBDA and wider WSRF.
  • Chair and lead a regular EP 'Community of Interest'.
