The Project Planner role sits within Chief Digital & Information Group (CDIO), whose vision is to run a secure, flexible and modern IT estate that enables innovation to meet changing policy needs and evolving customer and colleague expectations.


As part of HMRC's Chief Digital & Information Group, Service Central & Technical Services (SC&TS) are accountable for the digital strategy and end-to-end IT services to enable us to create brilliant IT systems and services for the future, as well as ensuring our Customer Experience is both consistent and excellent.


We work closely with the other platform groups and their partners to bring IT Systems and Services together and use the ServiceNow Platform capability to drive operational efficiencies, reduce costs and improve customer and colleague experience.

Job description:


As a Project Planner you will work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the ServiceNow Roadmap are defined and delivered onto the platform.

You will support the Senior Project Planner to provide clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure planned outcomes can be achieved, with the resources available.


You will support all aspects of delivery group and platform planning, which will include the development, updating and monitoring of plans and schedules.

You will be responsible for identifying tasks, activities and interdependencies between multiple projects within the delivery group as well as outputs for project and work with the team to track and monitor progress against the plan throughout the life of the project.


You will work across Service Central teams to help shape and embed 'run' controls to ensure concurrent changes can be delivered in a technical platform and define roles required to enable agile delivery in an appropriately controlled environment.

The Project Planner will provide support to the Service Central Advisory Board, Demand v Capacity and Prioritisation boards.


Person specification:


We are looking for a highly organised and proactive individual with the ability to support the creation and maintenance of dynamic and detailed delivery plans.

You will have experience in Project and Programme planning and have excellent stakeholder management skills. Experience of working in a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment with the ability to prioritise and deliver the required outputs


Essential Criteria**- Experience of maintaining detailed delivery plans and dependency management in a complex delivery group

  • Experience of implementing and maintaining standards, tools, processes, and systems for successful programme delivery, adopting the most appropriate methodology to ensure successful delivery, including Agile practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven record of establishing, building, and maintaining collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders and across functional and organisational boundaries.
  • Experience of supporting and insightful reporting and briefing techniques
  • Forward looking, proactive and able to effectively support critical path activities and remove blockers

Desirable Criteria

  • PRINCE 2 Practitioner
  • Agile Project Management Practitioner
  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • Excellent Microsoft Office tool experience
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow Platform
