An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist for fixed term 1 year who wishes to gain experience in acute and stroke, working alongside a well-developed MDT.


We would consider making this post a yearly rotational post across acute pathways of care: care of the elderly, dementia, delirium, respiratory and critical care.


You will be joining a supportive and dynamic Adult Speech and Language Therapy team of 7 therapists and 1 SLTA and working alongside highly skilled and experienced colleagues.


The post provides an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge within the areas of stroke and acute wards and developing skills in Videofluoroscopy and tracheostomy management.

The post holder will be required to supervise and train junior team members and participate in service development projects.


The post holder must be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure, taking a flexible and positive approach working in a busy acute environment, as part of a team and as an autonomous practitioner.


The Acute Therapies department at Watford General Hospital is committed to ensuring staff feel supported with their career progression through supervision, appraisal, in-house and external training, and leadership development.

There has never been a more exciting time to join West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Major redevelopment works are due for completion by 2025 or soon after.

These will be most dramatic at Watford General Hospital where up to 90% of buildings will be new.

To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to adults in inpatient settings who have:
Acquired communication disorders, and/or speech and/or language disorders, and/or eating, drinking and swallowing disorders.

To work independently to a specialist level of expertise and be accountable for ownprofessional actions.
