JOB PURPOSE:

Supporting Pearlcare's aim of delivering high standards to residents by providing nutritious, varied and well balanced meals that are safely and hygienically prepared and served.


Key Responsibilities

Required:


  • To plan, prepare and cook a variety of meals which are appealing, nutritious and centres around resident's preferences requests or any special dietary requirements.
  • To be active and encouraging, provide advice and guidance ensuring a safe, friendly supportive environment.
  • To follow Food Standards Agency, Safer, food, better business guidelines and complete relevant paperwork
  • To understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health and Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, ensuring a safe environment within the home.
  • To comply with Health and safety policies and complete risk assessments when required
  • To ensure daily menus are displayed within the home along with allergens specific to the daily menu
  • Implement, monitor and maintain cleaning schedules and ensure that all areas of the kitchen are immaculately clean. This will include the washing up of pots, pans and dishes when required.
  • Ensure sufficient food stocks are ordered and received from approved suppliers and that stock rotation is taking place to maintain optimum freshness of all foodstuff ensuring the highest quality expected within the Care Home.
  • Responsible for all kitchen equipment ensuring it is in full, safe working order, reporting any damage or faults to the Handyman/Maintenance Man and Care Home Manager and follow up any appropriate action.
  • To be an active member of the Care Homes team, contribute to team meetings
  • To be understanding towards residents and their needs and attend residents/relative meetings. Regularly monitor and assess residents satisfaction with the catering service provided in the home and respond accordingly and positively to ideas and feedback.

Key challenges
Managing and controlling an identified budget for the homes catering service. Planning and providing a varied, well-balanced and nutritious menu for the residents and supervising and motivating the kitchen team.


To ensure Pearlcare Homes high standards are maintained and that each team member treats residents in the way that they would expect to be treated themselves.


Key measures

  • Mandatory training is up to date
  • Completion of Intermediate Food Hygiene Qualification within 2 years of taking up position
  • Regular supervision meetings with Care Home Manager
  • Action to be taken from findings from audit reports (internal and external)

Person specification
Previous experience of catering for a minimum of 30 residents (dependent on size of home)

Basic food hygiene certificate

COSHH training and understanding of HACCP

Costing skills/budgeting experience

Real team player

Friendly and enthusiastic disposition

Excellent communication skills, approachable and able to integrate with others

Good organisational skills

Prioritise workloads

Reliable and punctual

Part-time hours: 18-24 per week


Salary:
£9.60 per hour
