About the Food and Textiles Technician Role:

Your main tasks will be:

  • Ordering and preparation of the food ingredients for all of the KS3 lessons.
  • Supporting the têxtiles teachers by preparing materials and undertaking routine maintenance of machines.


We prepare all of the ingredients for Key Stage 3 lessons in Food, and the major part of this role is organising with teaching staff which recipes they will be cooking and getting the correct orders placed for the ingredients to be delivered.


The ingredients will be prepared in line with the Food Hygiene legislation and full training will be given on this.


You will support teaching staff in delivering class demonstrations by providing the correct ingredients and equipment for each of these lessons and washing up afterwards.

There is a regular schedule of cleaning and deep cleaning fridges, freezers, ovens and cookers.


You will also:

  • Prepare fabric's for KS3 projects
  • Maintain sewing machines, over lockers and other têxtile equipment.
  • Check equipment, order materials and tidy both the classroom and store room spaces.
The Design & Technology department are currently undergoing a programme of expansion.

You will be working closely with the Head of Department to organise these spaces and support the delivery of curriculum.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • To support the smooth running of the Design & Technology Department.
  • To ensure that food technology rooms and equipment are kept clean and tidy and that food technology room safety regulations are met.
  • Ensure that fridges, cookers and equipment are kept clean and that a deep clean is undertaken when required.
  • Ensure that all equipment is accounted for, in the correct place and replaced where necessary.
  • Ensure that all equipment is stored in a safe, hygienic manner.
  • Administrative tasks e.g. filing, photocopying and laminating.
  • Check all equipment is safe and hygienic for use by students and staff.
  • Ensuring suitable storage of stock and reordering including checking deliveries.
  • Provide technical support during lessons, including individual or small group pupil support where appropriate.
  • Have a particular regard for health and safety matters in accordance with school policy and statutory requirements.
  • Support the department in setting up for open evenings, options evenings and exhibitions.
  • Support catchup session and extracurricular clubs during lunch or after school.
