Job Description:

Please note working hours are Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm.

Occasional Saturday work may be required.

To receive blood samples.
Sort and identify specimens received.
Register patient details and tests required on the laboratory computer.
Prepare samples where appropriate for analysis.
Work within the departmental good laboratory practice, health and safety policy and code of conduct and maintain health and safety standards.
Maintain laboratory and ensure workbenches are clean and tidy.
Safely handle and dispose of blood, urine or other body tissues or hazardous chemicals.
Prepare referral samples for external laboratory analysis.
Enter test results on the laboratory computer system and preparation of samples for analysis under supervision of the BMS(s).
Use and operate equipment such as centrifuges, automated equipment, pipettes and computer terminals in accordance to the laboratory SOPs.
Unpack and prepare reagents in accordance to the SOPs.
Perform all work within guidelines in SOP's and Health and Safety manual
Complete studies as directed by the BMS(s).
Deal with telephone enquires internally.
Clean and sterilise laboratory, equipment, shelves, bench tops and sinks.
Check stock levels of reagents /equipment/ consumables and make sure stock is ordered when they are getting low.

Qualifications:

Numerate, literate with good command of spoken and written English
Knowledge of Microsoft office and good keyboard skills
Able to communicate and work within a team.
Good timekeeping and attendance record
Ability to work without close supervision.
Attention to detail skills.
Ability to follow procedures.
Ability to work to deadlines.
