As a successful applicant you will join the senior management team and be the lead professional for safeguarding children & young people at all levels throughout our Trust.

You will get lots of support from our other safeguarding leads and our Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children & Young People.

The post-holder will act as an expert resource in safeguarding children both within the Trust and outside the Trust.


The post-holder will take a lead to ensure the requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children are met, in order that the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities to protect the welfare of children.


The post-holder will provide effective leadership on all aspects of the safeguarding children agenda, maintaining professional competence and credibility and a high level of legal literacy.


The post-holder will provide expert operational and strategic advice to the Trust, underpinned by highly developed specialist knowledge that ensures the Trust delivers all the key national and local objectives and assurances in line with all statutory functions and CQC requirements for the Safeguarding of Children and Young People.


The post-holder acting as a professional role model, will provide teaching, guidance research and demonstrate advanced practice and effective communication skills.


The Named Professional will be identifiable as the professional lead for Safeguarding Children and Young People and work collaboratively with the trust Adult Safeguarding Lead on all safeguarding matters including Prevent.


The post holder will contribute as a member of the trust Serious Incident Governance Group to reviewing reported incidents involving children and families.

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting


Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities.

A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon.

Management & Leadership

  • Work collaboratively to develop and deliver evidencebased knowledge and awareness in safeguarding children throughout the Trust.
  • Be responsible for keeping the Trust informed about local and national policy or practice guidance that may affect Trust services.
  • Produce formal reports for the Trust's Executive Safeguarding Meeting and the Quality and Safety Assurance Committee and an annual report for the Trust Board.
  • Provide quarterly Trust safeguarding children performance indicators for the ICB.
  • Develop and contribute to clinical guidelines, policies and protocols to ensure children's rights are respected and Trust staff are supported to 'Think Family'.
  • To report to the Director of Nursing, Designated Professionals and Executive Safeguarding Meeting all serious incidents and near misses involving children.
  • To provide specialist support and advice for all teams and practitioners.
  • To be available to support and advise staff before, during and after statutory child protection meetings, court processes and child death investigatory and review processes, ensuring staff have appropriate legal advice.
  • To provide effective leadership in advising and supporting staff with regards to information sharing following Caldicott Principles.
