In this role, you will be working on projects that create novel CHO (Chinese hamster ovary) cell lines and gene expression platforms with enhanced performance characteristics.
You will have the opportunity to join an innovative and impactful team with a diverse range of skills and experience across a range of fields including cell and molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression, protein engineering,and cell engineering.
You will be able to test your own ideas and develop yourself whilst learning new techniques and trialling different equipment.
Key responsibilities:
- Culture mammalian cell lines in flasks and smallscale bioreactors and perform analytical procedures as required by the project.
- Generate mammalian expression vectors using state of the art assembly techniques.
- Explore innovative ideas to optimise the cell line construction process including the use of automation equipments
- Collate, analyse, evaluate and signoff data to produce good quality information and traceable records under the direction of the project lead.
- Presentation of results in written and oral reports.
- Actively keep abreast of relevant academic literature (e.g., in the field of cell engineering and expression technologies)
- Working as a team player and working with a high degree of flexibility
- Maintains accurate and timely records to appropriate quality standards for self and team, prepares high quality data summaries.
Key requirements:
- BSc/MSc Degree in Life Sciences / Science/ Molecular Biology
- A proactive attitude to working and solving challenging problems
- Practical experience within industrial and/or academic settings with relevant mammalian cell culture techniques experience with CHO suspension cultures is advantageous
- Advantageous general lab skills include familiarity with implementation/development of automation equipment
- Able to demonstrate contribution to technology development projects, with experience of implementing new technologies

- Planning experiments/work and writing electronic lab notebook up (10%)
- Practical
- Molecular biology and/or cell culture (80%)
- Lab Maintenance (e.g. prep of T/C hoods) (5%)
- Overhead work (time sheets/training departmental meetings etc.) (5%)
