Purpose of the role:


To contribute to the provision of high-quality learning, development, and care for children aged 4-12 years within the Adventurers setting.

The Senior Practitioner will support the Manager and Deputy Manager in daily operations, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment and compliance with Care Inspectorate requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating a safe, caring, and stimulating educational environment for children aged 412 years within the Out of School Club.
  • Support the planning and delivery of playbased activities that align with the interests and developmental needs of the children.
  • Collaborate with the Manager and Deputy Manager to ensure the setting meets Care Inspectorate Requirements.
  • Undertake designated officer roles and assist in appraisals and supervisions as directed.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals in the local area to benefit children and families.
  • Understand and adhere to policies and procedures, including child protection protocols, incident response, and emergency procedures.
  • Act as a key person for a group of children, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Foster close communication with parents/carers, providing information about the setting, curriculum, and children's progress.
  • Assist in updating and reviewing the selfevaluation and improvement plan.
  • Contribute to creating a positive and supportive team environment.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager and in line with the organization's aims and objectives.

Professional Registration


You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for Day Care of Children within 6 months of commencing employment and will be responsible for maintaining annual membership.

Maintain an appropriate level of post registration training and learning.

You will also be required to be a member of PVG Scheme.


Person Specification

Experience:


  • Experience of work with children aged 4 to 12 years within a childcare setting (E).
  • Previous experience in a similar role or senior practitioner level (D).
  • Familiarity with the Care Inspectorate and its regulations (E).

Qualifications:


  • Hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant qualification in childcare or education (E).
  • Hold a practitioner qualification, such as SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7 or equivalent (E).

  • Experience of planning and delivering activities that meet the needs of children (E).
