THE ROLE
We have an exciting role for a Research and development manager to join our LTS futures program, which is one of our key strategic projects for the future of energy.
As an R&D manager on this program you will primarily be responsible for managing and delivering the R&D activities which include supplier liaison, stakeholder management, communications, and planning of works.
Reporting to the LTS futures project lead you will coordinate activities to ensure alignment with the project objectives, ensure budgets are closely monitored and controlled, you will also need to be connected with other hydrogen research projects makingsure any gaps in knowledge are covered for high pressure pipelines.
Key Responsibilities;
- Coordinate works programme in line with project objectives.
- Engage and work with third party interfaces as required such as project partners, industry groups, other GDNs, national and local government and European groups outside SGN.
- Interface with project research and development suppliers as required, reviewing technical reports and understanding the LTS network suitability for hydrogen.
- Ensure project budgets are closely monitored and controlled.
- Liaise closely with hydrogen research and development projects to ensure gaps have been covered for high pressure pipelines.
- Coach and manage direct reports.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
You will have experience coordinating multi-disciplinary contractor organisations during the R&D phases of projects, ideally you will have a relevant engineering degree and ideally hold or be working towards chartered engineer status.
You will need to be an excellent communicator able to engage at all levels, with strong stakeholder management skills and be a confident presenter.
ESSENTIAL
- Operational and project management experience
- Experience in multidisciplined energy projects
- Knowledge of highpressure pipeline materials
- Knowledge and understanding of the gas network/industry
- Experience in high pressure pipelines and gas entry systems
- Knowledge of Ofgem regulatory governance essential
- Contractor management experience
DESIRABLE
- Experience in vapour cloud deflagrations/ detonations will be beneficial
- Understanding of overpressures and blast waves and major accident hazards
- Understanding data acquisition systems and instrumentation
- Report writing skills
- Knowledge of renewable sector, particularly hydrogen
