Description

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and progressive PCN with this role being based at St Pauls Surgery in Winchester.


A General Practice Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing clinical tasks and more routine administration on behalf of clinicians freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

Hours

  • 24 hrs per week (over 3 days)
Duties will include

  • Phlebotomy (taking blood)
  • Wound care
  • Dopplers
  • Blood Pressure reviews
  • ECGs
  • Dipping urine
  • Immunisations
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Assisting with GP clinics (Minor Surgery, LARCs, Vasectomies)
  • Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
  • Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
  • Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
  • Completing basic (nonopinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
  • Administrative duties to support in PCN projects

Education and Training

  • To participate in any relevant training/courses/conferences
  • To complete mandatory training
  • To maintain your own continuing professional development, keeping up to date with developments

Information management

  • To maintain appropriate confidentiality of information relating to the organisation and its staff and maintain compliance with the Data Protection Act.
  • To be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all patient and staff records
  • Support good integrated governance and information governance practice within the practice
  • Report any concerns or incidents as per policy
